The world is rather lacking in good news and causes for celebration at the moment, so let us bring some positivity into the equation by wishing Grandmaster Wesley So a very happy birthday!
Born in 1993, Wesley has been one of the world’s top players for a number of years and is currently eighth in the FIDE rankings.

Wesley became a Grandmaster at 14 and has many tournament successes to his name. These include the 2016 Sinquefield Cup, the London Chess Classic of the same year and the 2017 Tata Steel event.
He is, of course, the reigning World Champion…at Fischer Random chess, having defeated Magnus Carlsen in November 2019.
In fact now would be a very good time to investigate The Ascent – which is Wesley’s Chessable course on Fischer Random Strategies and Tactics, especially as it is currently enjoying a birthday sale.
Wesley is soon to compete in the US Chess Championship. He will definitely be looking to add to the title he won in 2017.
Time now to revisit special moments of Wesley’s appearances on the Chessable blog.
Perhaps this is a portent for Wesley’s performance at this year’s US Championship…?
Happy Birthday, Grandmaster Wesley So!
