At Chessable, we’re constantly striving to improve our platform and make studying chess more efficient by listening to Chessablers’ feedback.
That’s why we are introducing a new feature to our courses, Priority Lines.
The Priority Lines feature narrows down your workload to only the most frequent variations found in real games – preparing you for what you’re statistically most likely to play against.
The feature is very useful for players with a limited amount of study time. It can come in handy for courses in the Lifetime Repertoires series. As these courses are meant to last you a lifetime of study, focusing on the most frequent variations can help you narrow down your study, which is particularly helpful if you’re preparing for an upcoming tournament.
How does it work?
There are a couple ways to enable the Priority Lines feature. Firstly, if you go to “Learn” on your chosen course and enter the MoveTrainer® for a given chapter, a check box will appear on the pull out menu on the left, allowing you to select “Priority lines only”.

Another way to do it is on the course Chapters page. Access the course Chapters page, scroll down to the Course Settings box on the right-hand side. On the Learn drop-down menu, select Priority Only. After the page reloads, you should see that the number of variations in the course drops.
Priority Lines Options
Priority Lines offers two options for selecting the most important lines.
The first, “Algorithm Selection”, compiles the most popular variations played through an online opening database. This option is available for every opening course in the Chessable catalog.
Algorithm Selection focuses on roughly one third of the most frequently played lines.
The second option, “Author Selection”, compiles the lines the author of the course deems most relevant for the opening.
This option is only available if the author has chosen priority lines for the given course.
It’s as simple as that. You can try out this new feature on any Chessable course. We hope it will help you sharpen your focus and keep improving your game!
