FM Martin Voigt and IM Dirk Sebastian (2442 Fide) are back with the latest in their algorithm-assisted Thematic Tactics series, this time centering on The Italian Game. For the uninitiated, Thematics Tactics courses are designed to help you strengthen your understanding of positions arising from an opening using the common tactical motifs that crop up.
But that's not all.
The motifs are generated by an algorithm that suggests the best and most important patterns that have occurred in practical play from a database of real games.
It means the authors have assessed every conceivable tactic that can arise in the opening choice, in this case
the Giuoco Pianissimo variation of The Italian Game.
Amplify your opening knowledge
Those raw tactics have then been checked, analysed and finally whittled down to key themes which you need to know if you play, or are playing against, the Giuoco Pianissimo.
The course also comes with more than 12,000 words of master instruction to boost your understanding of the positions that arise, helping you spot where the typically strong and weak points are and which pieces might be in danger.
The idea is that by training these 400 key tactics you will not only internalize the motifs, but learn how to set up your pieces harmoniously.
It's Italian Game on!
It is important to note, the course gives you a comprehensive overview of the typical tactics in the Giuco Pianissimo from
both the White and the Black side.
As a result, it
exclusively looks at positions from games in which White played d3, meaning there are no tactics from the Max Lange Attack or the Moeller Attack.
The idea behind this is simple: Thematic Tactics is the easy prep you need to go out and nail those tactics if you see them in your games.
If you have a pre-match routine, we advise adding a quick burst of this course.
