"Chess is a war over the board. The object is to crush the opponent’s mind." - Bobby Fischer
The Caro-Kann is a solid defense and is known to be a tough defense to crack!
It is named after Horatio Caro and Marcus Kann, who analyzed it in 1886. It was a favorite weapon of some world champions, including Mikhail Botvinnik, Tigran Petrosian, and Anatoly Karpov. With such players being advocates of the defense, you would expect it to be a tough defense to crack! As with most things in Chess, you do not get a solid position without giving something up. In this case, Black has given up some dynamic potential. While the most challenging test of the Caro-Kann is the Advance Variation, it also comes with reams of theory! Instead, we will base our repertoire on a setup used one of the more dynamic world champions: Bobby Fischer.
