This book is about the opening 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.d4 and is complimentary to the Evans Gambit - Beginner's Guide. It is created for players in the rating range 1000-1800 and based on what players up to a rating of 2000 typically play.
It is meant for players looking for a dynamic, unbalanced opening against 1.e4 e5. An important reference book for this course was The Scotch Gambit by GM Alex Fishbein published in 2017.
Taking control
With
4.d4 White plays for immediate control of the center. If Black plays passively then White will have a long term space advantage and will be the first one to attack.
White delays recapturing on d4 to quickly develop his pieces. White's Bc4 attacks the f7-pawn and Black should be careful not to run into a two-fold or double attack with Qb3 or Qd5. Play is concrete and Black must know what he is doing to avoid a quick defeat.
In the main variation White often attacks with f4 and f5 and uses the control of the c5-square (preferably by a knight after a trade of the black squares bishops) to dominate the position.
