Going Above & Beyond: Dr. Martin Kreuzer

“Chessable courses are living books.”

We call them that because you only need a few clicks to update them, and ensure everyone has the “latest edition.”

It’s especially handy in the opening — where novelties come up every week.

But what about tactics courses?

With the strength of today’s engines, once they’ve analyzed and provided a solution to an exercise… that’s pretty much it! You don’t add “novelties” to a winning chess combination after all.

So what FIDE Master Martin Kreuzer did is even more admirable. In the world of chess publishing where titles come and go, he’s kept his tactics course fresh and much-loved by students for years.

Kreuzer is a multifaceted chess professional.

He built up a peak FIDE rating of 2334, as well as a peak ICCF rating of 2660 as a correspondence GM. All while teaching as a distinguished doctor of mathematics at the University of Passau in Germany

His first-ever Chessable course, Mighty Is Geometry, opens your mind’s eye to the hidden geometric ideas in a position. So you can connect those lines, squares, and pieces to zero-in on the winning combo.

Kreuzer debuted his course in 2021, and here’s how he’s made it even more valuable for long-time students, who might’ve already completed it.

“Mighty Is Geometry was my first course at Chessable and it was a finalist in the initial 2021 Create Your Own Course contest. When it appeared, it had 200 puzzles and a little over 4 hours of video explanations.

After less than a year, in 2022, I added another two chapters comprising 100 puzzles, and I redid all the videos, covering each and every one of the then 300 puzzles, and totalling about 18 hours of video content.

All of this was provided free of charge to the users of the course!”

Now that was in 2022.

Since then, suggestions and requests from the community poured in. They can’t get enough of the lessons Kreuzer brings to the table, and here’s how he handled it:

“I asked the users which types of further additions they would like to see. Since I was working on my course Killerzüge (ed: his German-language course) in 2023, the new update got delayed to this year, but now I am ready with another chapter called Crazy Geometry which features 50 further beautiful puzzles.”

Well, we certainly don’t mind Kreuzer’s “slight delay”. Not when his course nearly doubled in size and instruction — now with 350 puzzles, 14 hours of video, and 9 additional reference games.

It’s like long-time students got “part 2” for free!

So if you’re looking to elevate your tactics to new heights — and enjoy excellent bang for your buck — show FM Martin Kreuzer some love and grab a copy of Mighty Is Geometry.
