International Master Piotr Nguyen is a chess coach and author from Warsaw, Poland.
IM Nguyen started playing chess at the age of 9, and it wasn’t long before he was hooked on the tournament trail. After getting into the game, he participated in the national youth championship in Poland every year since. Within five years, he scored an amazing 1st place victory in the rapid section of the tournament, with a 2nd place finish in the classical section in the same year!
His love of travel and chess led him to play in dozens of tournaments throughout Europe, producing some impressive results in the process - including an incredible 2620-rated performance in 2017 at Zadar, which earned him a grandmaster norm.
The Polish IM seems to have unlimited energy. Though he works as a professional software developer by day, he somehow finds time to coach students in chess and create some fascinating opening courses on Chessable.
And judging by the quality of his Chessable courses, you would think that chess was his full time job! If you’re looking for original approaches to handling mainstream openings such as the Ruy Lopez and Sicilian, you definitely want to check them out. His 1.e4 e5 repertoire, co-authored with Grandmaster Lukasz Jarmula, offers Black unique ways for fending off White’s toughest tournament openings using less explored lines. And the reviews are in - his students love his teaching style and love employing these secret weapons in their own games. Be sure to check out IM Nguyen’s courses below and see for yourself:
