International Master David Vigorito is a man of many talents.
He is widely known as an all-level coach responsible for developing many US National Scholastic Champions; and for being State Champion of three different states (Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Nevada).
Lesser known is that he got into tournament chess at 16. Of course, it was already late by the 80s' standards, but that didn't prevent him from leaping through the ranking ladder in record time.
How? Instead of listening how to swim over and over, he was always in the pool. Although he did read some classic books, he was never a die-hard studying player. Neither did he have a coach!
However, being an active tournament player pays off: among IM Vigorito's many rating breakthroughs, he counts gaining over 600 USCF rating points within one list and leapfrogging from the 2150 to 2300 FIDE during a single tournament.
At the pinnacle of his career, he qualified to play two US Championships, and his rating peaked at 2565 USCF and 2437 FIDE. Such achievements make IM Vigorito one of the most successful adult improvers, and jokingly, his friends wonder what could have been if he had taken on chess only five years earlier.
Where he excels is as an opening theoretician. He has written no less than nine opening books in the last 15 years! These include rave-review treatises on the Semi-Slav, King's Indian, and the Najdorf Sicilian. So his coming into Chessable was only natural.
In his first Chessable course, David provides a comprehensive repertoire against the English based on the Symmetrical variation. And you can trust his word for it: as David is an expert practitioner of the English with both colors!
