As a 21-year-old FM, there was nothing impressive about Mircea-Emilian Parligras. He is, however, responsible for the rare feat of skipping the IM title on his way to Grandmasterdom. His secret: always play for the win.
Stunning the field in the 2001 Roumanian Championship as a 2400-rated player, was only the start of a rocketing carrier. He would cross the 2650 rating mark in the following years, enter the world top 100, represent his country in the Chess Olympiad 8 times, and win many international tournaments. Among them, a second National title, which remains his dearest achievement.
However fierce he may be on the chessboard, it doesn't spoil his likable personality. The proof is his excellent relationships with his teammates and his active presence on social media.
Parligras is also a successful coach for all levels. 'Relax and be patient' is his motto. This approach made him a highly reviewed lichess coach and the Grandmaster in residence for the Saint Louis Chess Club in late 2020.
So his coming to Chessable is only a natural step in his resume. In his course for the Lifetime Repertoire series, Parligras makes the tough Benoni defense understandable to beginners and advanced players alike, regardless of their Benoni experience.
He focuses on theory as much as on understanding the position and its ideas. And with the same attitude, he offers a full repertoire against all the deviations. Given the Benoni's raging spirit, Lifetime Repertoires: The Modern Benoni is the fighter's choice against 1.d4.
