Grandmaster Mihail Marin (peak 2616 FIDE) from Romania was a seven-year old boy when the 1972 Fischer-Spassky Match took place. And after he caught the chess bug then, he never looked back!
Marin's first major success came 1987 when he qualified for the Interzonal... but that was only one of the many feats he will accomplish later in his career.
He has participated in 12 Olympiads, and won bronze for the third board in 1988. He won the Romanian championship three times... as well as a couple of dozen trophies in open and closed tournaments.
Marin's strength as a player is beyond question. Nowadays, however, fans and professionals recognize him as one of the finest chess writers in the world.
