Michael Gorny (peak 2080 FIDE) is an equity analyst turned chess expert.
He picked up the "chess bug" from his father, while his grandfather's Mephisto chess computer fascinated him even more. The game provided him "relief" from classroom lectures, when the school team needed a member. The playing time were during normal school hours, and he was more than happy to play instead of sit through a lesson.
The young Gorny played sharp positions and invited complicated tactics. As he grew as a player, however, he began to enjoy positional chess which only contributed to his playing strength.
Gorny may not be a titled player, but his achievements over the board are the envy of the average player. He won the local championship of their town for starters. He also drew against German legend Vlastimil Hort in a 50-player simultaneous exhibition.
Then, in San Sebastian 2018, Gorny drew against a Grandmaster by playing the Leningrad Dutch for the first time in a face-to-face tournament. The same event also saw him win against an International Master after rejecting a draw offer in an equal but interesting endgame.
Gorny prides himself on being a "truth seeker." Always curious and loves to learn and teach. Which is why he became a Chessable author.
He started out by helping his long-time analysis partner, International Master Christof Sielecki.
Yet his strong research and analysis skills enabled him to create cutting-edge repertoires on his own. And, boy, will you love his courses because they're sharp, tactical, and a ton of fun!
