Norwegian chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen is the 16th World Chess Champion and arguably the strongest player in the history of the game.
The year 2013 saw the 22-year-old Carlsen wrestle the crown from Viswanathan "The Tiger of Madras" Anand and become the second youngest undisputed World Champion, next only to the legendary Garry Kasparov.
But Carlsen's desire to win and competitive spirit didn't allow him to rest on his laurels. In June 2014, he claimed the World Rapid and Blitz Championships after scoring 22 wins, 12 draws and only two losses against the world's best players — an impressive 77.78% win rate!
Since then, Carlsen has defended the title against Anand in 2014... Sergey Karjakin in 2016... and Fabiano Caruana in 2018.
Yet Carlsen's list of "impossible" feats don't end there. His peak classical rating of 2882 is the highest in history. He also holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak of 125 games.
Christened as "the Mozart of Chess," Carlsen combines persistence, unparalleled positional intuition and excellent command of tactics to squeeze wins from the most drawish-looking positions.
