Grandmaster Liêm Quang Lê is one of the top ranked chess players in the world, director and head coach of the Webster University chess team in St. Louis, and a rapid and blitz specialist.
GM Lê started off his chess career with a bang by winning a gold medal in the 2003 Asian Youth Championship, and quickly proved himself to be a dominant force in Asian chess in the next few years. In addition to winning the U14 section in the same tournament again the following year, he won the World Youth Championship U14 and tied for first in the Asian U16 Championship, just to name a few of his early successes.
His breakout on the world stage came in 2010, when he won an invitation to the prestigious Dortmund chess tournament after first place performances in the Moscow Open and Aeroflot Open. After defeating top players like Ruslan Ponomariov and Peter Leko, GM Lê showed the world he was ready to join the ranks of the elite.
Since then, he has lived up to the expectation with astounding tournament results at the world’s most prestigious chess events. Some of his biggest achievements include winning the 2013 World Blitz Championship, 2019 World Open, and 2019 Saint Louis Chess Classic.
Not surprisingly, his impressive results have catapulted him up the rankings ladder. With an all-time best of number 23 in the world, GM Lê still consistently ranks within the top 30 chess players in the world to this day.
