Judit Polgar is the youngest of the three Hungarian sisters that were raised to be chess prodigies. Her parents (Lazlo and Klara Polgar, a couple of educational psychologists) believed that with the proper education, geniuses could be created. So they homeschooled their three daughters and taught them chess as the field they would specialize in.
Zsuzsa, the eldest, became Grandmaster and Women’s World Champion. Zofia, the middle one, became International Master and peaked at #6 in the Women’s World Ranking.
The sisters were two-time Women’s Chess Olympic Champions. For most of their career, though, they avoided playing women-only events, as their parents believed that women could achieve the same as men and chess should not be divided by sexes.
Judit’s achievements, however, are the most impressive.
She led the Women’s World Ranking since she was 12, became the youngest Grandmaster of all time (then, aged 15), and is the only woman ever to get into the world top-10 and play a World Championship.
Judit was well known for her attacking style, which made her win many spectacular games and a fan favorite. Throughout her career, she defeated eleven players that had been, were at the moment, or would get to be World Champions. She remains the only female player to cross the 2700 FIDE rating.
After retiring from active chess 2014, she has dedicated herself to promote chess education for children and organize chess festivals.
As a Chessable author, she released Master your chess with Judith Polgar part 1 in June 2021, co-authored along with IM Andras Toth. Throughout the three phases of the game, the course reviews strategy and tactics and received rave reviews from the community. A continuation is in the works.
