In the chess world there are many strategic masterminds, but not many can say they literally wrote the book on chess strategy - unless we’re talking about Grandmaster Johan Hellsten.
GM Hellsten is one of the most skilled chess players out of Sweden. Just a year after achieving his grandmaster title, Hellsten made a clear first place finish in the 2005 Copa Entel tournament in Chile with a remarkable 10/12 points. In 2006, he achieved the top chess honor in his country by becoming Swedish Chess Champion. He’s also represented Sweden in the Chess Olympiads and has even taken home a gold medal from the European Chess Championships.
But this seasoned pro is perhaps best known as a coach and author. Since 2008, Hellsten has been working as a chess coach at the Sports Federation of Chimborazo, Ecuador. He has also trained the Swedish U20 team and given lectures at the US Chess School.
His Mastering Strategy textbook series is a standard for any intermediate player looking to take their chess to master level. The 3-part set is the perfect guide to honing strategic play in any stage of the game - opening, middlegame or endgame. And with the series’ crown jewel, Mastering Chess Strategy, now on Chessable, you too can elevate your chess strategy to the next level. Check it out below and stay tuned for the next installment in the series.
