Irina Bulmaga is a Moldovan-born Romanian International Master and Woman Grandmaster.
An attacking player with a thirst for victory, Bulmaga won several Moldovan Girls' Chess Championships in various age categories. She went on to win the Moldovan Women’s Chess Championship in 2007 and 2008.
In 2009, Bulmaga began to play for Romania, where her meteoric rise continued and she began to be a serious presence on the international scene. In 2010, she won the Romanian Women’s Blitz Chess Championship, and in 2014 she won the 7th edition of the “Maria Albulet Memorial” Annual Women’s International Tournament.
She has represented Romania at the Chess Olympiads on six separate occasions (2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018), winning the bronze medal in 2014. Bulmaga became Romania's youngest ever Women's National Champion at 14 years of age. She was awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster in 2012 and International Master in 2013.
Just midway through the making of this course in April 2022, she had one of her best tournament performances, winning the Premier Group of the Capablanca in Havana. In the tournament, she scored 7.5/9 with an impressive 2593 performance rating.
