How much stronger could you become if you had a super-grandmaster as your coach?
Imagine no more because Grandmaster Harikrishna Pentala makes the dream a reality.
Harikrishna will always be close to our hearts. After all, he's the first 2700-player to offer his professional-grade preparation as a Chessable opening repertoire.
Since its release, French Toast: How Harikrishna Fries 1...e6 has earned 4.79 stars and plenty of rave reviews from satisfied students...and we can only be happy that Harikrishna decided to create more courses for the community.
Improving players can learn a lot from the Indian grandmaster's storied career.
Harikrishna became India's youngest grandmaster on September 12, 2001. After which, a long string of consistent performances and impressive wins followed. He won the Commonwealth Championship in 2001, World Junior Championship in 2004, Asian Individual Championship in 2011, and the Biel MTO Masters Tournament Open in 2013 just to name a few.
But while his individual results impress, Harikrishna shines the brightest in team events.
In team competitions, minimizing the risk of losing is just as important as maximizing winning chances. So the best case scenario is to get a risk-free "impossible to lose" position, and keep milking it until the opponent cracks. And, boy, Harikrishna is an expert at this!
His winning formula?Trade down into an equal but desirable endgame to eliminate the risk of losing. Keep improving his position while maintaining tension. Give the opponent the chance to go wrong whenever possible. Rinse and repeat!
Sounds simple...but even elite grandmasters crack against this formula.
Pentala's "high-pressure but low-risk" endgame play has enabled the Indian team to win multiple gold (15th Asian Games 2006 and 16th Asian TCC 2009), silver (13th Asian TCC 2003 and 17th Asian TCC 2012) and bronze medals (7th World TCC 2010 and 16h Asian Games 2010).
We even had to omit his medal-winning performances in European, Russian, and Chinese chess leagues. Otherwise, we wouldn't have space for the rest of the bio!
But more important than a jaw-dropping list of tournament wins...
Pentala Harikrishna is a generous gentleman, who's not afraid to share his "trade secrets." If you want to see and hear how a super-GM thinks...so you, too, can play like one...then click on one of his courses below to get started!
