Grandmaster Georg Meier is a German-born player who currently represents Uruguay on the international stage. He is considered to be an expert endgame player and the foremost expert on the French Rubinstein variation as Black.
Meier began playing chess at age three. Before switching to the Uruguay Chess Federation in November 2021, he had a successful chess career for Germany. He won the German Under-16 chess championship in 2003 and became a Grandmaster in 2007.
In 2011, as part of the German team, he won the European Team Championship scoring 5.5/9 on board two.
In January 2012, he reached his maximum Elo- a stunning 2671- making him then the 75th strongest player in the world.
Meier's success continued at the Grenke Chess Classic 2013, where he shared third place with GM Michael Adams, one point behind GM Fabiano Caruana and 1.5 points behind GM Viswanathan Anand. The following year, Meier shared second with GM Peter Leko at the Dortmund Sparkassen Tournament 2014. In 2022, Meier made his Chessable course debut with Fundamentals of Chess Strategy
