David Smerdon is a grandmaster and represented Australia at seven Olympiads, drawing with Magnus Carlsen in his last appearance in 2016.
He earned a PhD in economics in 2017 and works as an Assistant Professor at the University of Queensland, where he specializes in behavioral and development economics.
David's first book, 'Smerdon's Scandinavian', was published in 2015, and his second book, 'The Complete Chess Swindler', was awarded the English Chess Federation's Book of the Year in 2020.
David lives in Brisbane with his wife and two children.
