Alex Yermolinsky is an American grandmaster, instructor, and commentator.
Though born in Russia, GM Yermolinsky is an icon in American chess. His breakout success came in 1993, when he tied for first place in the US Championship with Alexander Shabalov. In 1996, he won the same tournament again outright, becoming a dominant force on the American scene. His reputation was only solidified when he won the World Open in Philadelphia three times in four years - 1993, 1995, and 1996. With these tournament successes alone, it is clear that his spot in the US Chess Hall of Fame is well deserved!
But he has contributed much more to American chess than playing some amazing games. GM Yermolinsky is an active chess instructor and commentator to this day. In addition to regularly providing entertaining and instructive commentary on live events, he often livestreams games with real-time instructive analysis.
Certainly, such a prolific chess player and educator is right at home here on Chessable.
